Week of Dec 7-10

What are you going are you going to take from this class that you think will be helpful in future endeavors?

I will be taking a lot from this class. This is my last semester at SJSU and I waited until the last possible moment to take this class! Because that's how much I like public speaking LOL. This was actually my first online course and I really enjoyed it. Through my speeches in this class I've gained confidence in speaking in public and I've also gotten more comfortable doing it. This has been one of my main problems that I have wanted to fix/get rid of and through this class I beleive that I'm not necessarily there yet, but I'm almost there :) There were some important tips in the book that I am going to take with my in the future; like not being so nervous when doing speeches, analyzing your audience and making sure that your speech is appropriate for your specific audience type. Overall, this was a great course and I wish I would have tooken it sooner!

I didn't exactly wait until the last minute but I AM in my junior year of school and I am just now taking the class! And the fact that I chose an ONLINE public speaking course goes to show JUST how afraid I was of public speaking! I remember almost dropping the class at the beginning of the semester when I realized that we had to actually publicly speak (I thought, stupidly, that we'd be able to do it through videos. Sigh)

I think the whole class has taken some form of confidence skills from this class because honestly, this class truly helped! It was such a relief to get that last speech over with because looking back to the course I definitely believe we all had fun!

I'm a junior too, hooray for the veterans of the class!! Public speaking has been probably one of the most helpful classes I have ever taken in my time here at SJSU. I failed my first time, surprise, surprise. So, taking it a second time I was a lot more calm because I knew what to expect. However, I did feel a little more nervous because I was feeling the pressure of actually passing the class. Look at me now. Not only will I pass the class, I will pass with flying colors!! I still don't know what that phrase means but it sounds awesome. What I paid attention to the most, was the mistakes that people made. I did not want to chastise people for them, but I wanted to learn and not make those same mistakes. I appreciated everyone's effort in going up there and not being afraid to make those mistakes. Good or bad, everything is always an experience that will have good lessons for life.

Hahaha. I'm almost in the same boat as you. I'm a forth year but its not that i do not like public speaking, but i just did not think the class was going to help me any. I haven't been apart of an online class before so this was an interesting experience as well. I agree that analyzing the audience is super important and something i didnt know had a name. it was great meeting you all!

You are right about how you should have taken this class sooner. It is a very helpful class overall and would have been useful before taking other higher division courses that may require speaking in front of the class. I was surprised that this class was even offered online. At first I thought that this class didn't even have to meet, I thought it was all online. But I knew that was unlikely. You could tell especially after our first demonstration speeches that the majority of the class had issues with public speaking. It is obvious just by the number of people who dropped the course by the third speech. However, on a positive note, you could also tell how much this class helped everyone out because of the improvements from the demo speech to the persuasive one.
